Although you should be aware that you're going to be so far down on the list that the chances of getting your money back this way -- if you register as a creditor of the company -- are almost nil.
Perhaps you should check if he's personally gone bankrupt recently? This register may be a good place to start: (link removed)
If the company is being liquidated and you wish to approach this as a loan to him as a person you'll need to find his address to proceed. See if you can find a local private investigator?
mmm you're right there. I can imagine that is going to be a very slow and probably pointless.
I guess you're right as when I sent him the money, it was more of a personal matter so I shouldn't really register as a creditor.
Definitely going to go down the latter route, need to find the guy first. Why not go around to one of his businesses and confiscate £6k worth of stuff?

Probably not a good idea to discuss that, as said below would not want to make myself liable for anything! What if he happened to get burgled around this time and I get the blame!Much as that might be appealing as an idea...for about 5 minutes, the OP should remember that this 'advice' constitutes theft and s/he could well be arrested, charged and potentially jailed for it.
Exactly. I'm going to try and track him down first and confront him. I will keep you posted of any progression.
Really can't believe this has happened. I would never have expected it from him.
I guess the lesson is ALWAYS think of a worst case senario and insure any debt, so if it does happen you have something to fall back on.0 -
How is it your fault if he gets mugged and loses a knee-cap or 2.
Hey Mr Plod I think Revorocks done it cos I defrauded him of 4 biguns.0 -
How well do you know this guy? Do you know his family? Could you go round there and find out what's going on?
You say you're pretty sure its his real name maybe you could do some digging on one of those genes sites, find out his date of birth, if he's married/divorced etc0 -
...we have known him for about 8 years now and hes always been around for dinner...That £4k was to be borrowed from me, fixed term of 1 month at 8% interest + £20 a day penalty for each day over the 30 day term.0

I would be surprised if a judge did not side with me.0 -
I lent 10k to my ex boyfriend (while we were still together and happy). We broke up a year ago and surprise surprise he has not paid me back.
He paid monthly installments for a while, but now has stopped and also not replying to my emails or texts. I am getting through each day by being thankful I am not with him anymore, as I am sure as time went on, the situation would only have got worse.
As someone else said, you may well cross paths again, and karma will hopefully kick in also.Total Debt: L1 £4866, L2 £1050, CC £0 Original Debt £29 k

Well, I have an update for you guys.
It was still ongoing for some time. I popped into the bank, and funilly enough he was in there. I didn't see him at first, but then I spotted him leaving quickly.
I stopped what I was doing, caught up with him. Think he thought I hadn't seen him as he looked a bit worried/shocked.
Anyway a load of bull**** excuses came out and I had a long discussion with him. Excuses could've been rubbish, or legit. Either way I took some more securities (full name, dob, address, other contacts etc all double checked). He still couldn't pay it at the time.
Anyway after many texts back and fourth (he had "lost his phone".)
Funny really as a few months ago he had been boasting about how fast he got a replacement iPhone from Apple last time he lost it.
Anyway, a week and a half later the money finally came though.
This was after quite a long discussion, and I did say I will sell the loan if he doesn't pay in the next week. We know a few people who would buy it full price and ask for him to pay the fee...
Would not want to go down that route but explained I would if I had to.
Anyway it seemed that was enough to get him moving.
Thank god for that!
Anyway, got it back now in time for Christmas so that's a lesson learnt.
Thanks for all your help everyone. I think in this case the legal route definitely wasn't the case. Wouldn't get us anywhere, and to me, it's the principle.
Just as well I bumped into him! Otherwise god knows where I would be now...
Cheers0 -

Fanstastic news for you Revorocks. Hopefully other people will learn from this too. Well done for sticking to your guns.0

great news.
direct, personal contact was the right method.
and 'knowing people' is very handy, even though it shouldn't be necessary.0
