Career after teaching

I have given up a teaching position for another role in a school but want to explore other job opportunities for the future. Any other ex teachers have any advice?

My wife went from teaching (secondary) to being a sort of school counsellor, doing careers adive, helping them through troubles etc. It doesn't pay nearly as well, but she's doing something she is passionate about.

What are you passionate about? Try to follow that if you can - it leads to a happier life, I've found.

What was your teaching subject and what other work (or out of work) experience do you have? Are you prepared for a drop in salary?

I'm an ex teacher. I went into CAMHS and took several short contracts in social care to experience different areas. I'm now in my second year of my MA in Social Work and my teaching skills have been invaluable (presentations are a doddle and I can work out what is required from me in assignments easily). What are you interested in?

  • Good Luck to you too VickyA, I think there are quite a few of us! I have no regrets, other than when I look at my wage slip! I was a primary teacher and have already taken the drop. But am now starting to think long term. Lots of things interest me such as adult basic skills ed, counselling and the Police! Not overly keen to study again but want to try to ensure a reasonable income.
