Inland revenue decree question

Sorry if this has been asked before but i couldn't see anything on it.
I currently have a decree on my credit report which the inland revenue obtained in november 06 as they hadn't recieved my 05/06 tax return. the tax return was given to an accountant as soon as i had recieved it in early april but he failed to hand it in until January of this year after i recieved more letters threatning to enforce the decree from the inland revenue. Once it was in i was actually owed money from the inland revenue but I have recently tried obtain credit and i have been refused on several occasions. Is there any way i can get the decree removed from my file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are either confused or have been misled.

Your 2005/6 tax return was not due for submission until the end of January 2007, so it appears that is was actually submitted on time.

So whatever has been put on your credit record by HMRC is nothing to do with your 2005/6 tax return.

How do you know HMRC have put something on your credit record? Have you had a copy of your credit report from Experian or similar firms? Are you up to date with tax returns for earlier years?

I am afraid you are barking up the wrong tree by thinking it is something to do with your 2005/6 tax return - from the facts you have given, it isn't.

I'd suggest you check a bit more thoroughly into your credit report - it looks to be something else that is causing you a problem.

I don't believe HMRC log anything with the credit agencies, unless something gets to court and this results in a CCJ, CVA or similar. I might be wrong though.

  • My apologies, the payment and the tax return they took me to court for was for 04/05 which the accountant had for over a year but on the summons they were also claiming for 05/06, so i wasnt up to date. I obtained a copy of my credit report from equifax and the court judgement was definetely for the same case.

All CCJs are logged on credit files.
