Many comps ask for your age or d.o.b. despite their t&c simply saying entrants must be over a certain age. Being a natural sceptic I suspect this might be because they want winners who fit their 'image'. As I also suspect I may not fit this category I simply change the year.
In the event of a win, am I right in assuming they can't deny me the prize as I am, indeed, over the age stated in their own T&C?

Hello Sbarkia,
I can't remember the last time I told the truth about my age on comps or anywhere else! :rotfl:
I have no idea why companies ask for an age (unless of course it is age restricted) but I am pretty sure if it an 'honourable' company and most comps/draws are random then it WON'T be because they are looking for an image fitting winner.
I believe you to right when you say if the T&C's state you only have to be over a certain age they will not deny you your prize.
In many years of comping I've never been asked to prove my age to claim a prize.
Hope this helps,

I've always assumed it's for marketing/research purposes.Would LOVE to win:
A hamper - any sort! A goody bag - any sort! A UK mini-break. A year's supply of something foodie. Anything Sci-Fi related
2013 wins - Cutting Room book, Rock n Rose necklace, £50 M&S voucher, Greggs coffee, £70 voucher for a Onesie0 -
i personally owuld put the correct age especially for the big cash/car comps what if they ask for say a driving license and it doesnt match up with what youve entered you, could be disqualifed really dont want to take that riskWhat goes around-comes around0

Thanks Rae. I'm still not convinced it isn't something to do with image, especially when they sometimes say you may be required to take part in publicity, so I'll continue bending the truth. If it is merely for marketing purposes it won't matter. Provided a winner is over the eligible age I don't think there should be a problem.0
