Are Plastic Pudding Basins Any Good?

I want to start making steamed puddings again but I need to buy some pudding basins. I have a recipe for a steak and kidney pudding which requires a 3 pint basin but most of them seem to be plastic with lids. Can anyone tell me does the plastic lid replace the foil and does this work? I think I would prefer a porcelain one really.
Also what would you say was the ideal size to make a dessert pudding such as a treacle sponge pudding?

YES. They are excellent. In fact I just ordered about 4 in varying sizes to make small Christmas puddings in! So easy - no faffing around with foil and making lids and so on. Just make sure you never put them in the dishwasher or the lids may not fit again. I really can't recommend them enough. You just grease the inside (make sure you grease the inside of the lid, too), put in the mixture and you are ready to go. They are fab.0

Oh, as for ideal size for pudding, I don't know. I think mine is 3 pints and it makes a steamed syrup sponge that is far too big really. Maybe if you have a huge family!0

I make lots of different flavour sponge puddings and for two of us I just use one egg, 2oz fl, 2oz castor sugar, then either chocolate , syrup, jam, dry fruit etc etc.. if I'm making a bigger one I just double the ingredients .
One egg makes more than enough sponge pudding for two.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j
