Do Sainsburys take printable vouchers ?

Apologies if this has been discussed before - I did do a search but nothing came up.
My other half and I normally go to Tescos and it's my job (self imposed) to get any vouchers printed etc.
This week my wife went to Sainsburys for a change armed as usual with some vouchers (only 3 as most were valid for Tescos). However, when she went to use them (for items she HAD purchased) she was asked by the assistant where did she get them from and when she said "the internet" was told Sainsburys didn't take ANY vouchers printed from the internet. She then asked a supervisor and was told the same thing. Is this common practice with them.
Thnx

There is a Sainsburys near me that does not take them. The other one does. Its down to the individual customer service manager.0

What payment methods do you accept?
Our stores and petrol stations are happy to accept:- Cash (Pound Sterling)
- Valid MasterCard, Visa, Visa SimplyOne, Electron, Maestro, International Maestro, Amex, Duet and JCB cards
- Valid coupons & vouchers
- Sainsbury's gift cards and gift vouchers (Business gift cards are not accepted at our petrol stations.)
- All Star fuel cards (petrol stations only)
- Sainsbury's fuel cards (petrol stations only)
I would print out this page and show it to anyone in Sainsburys who refuses to accept your printed vouchers0 -

But if OP is being told they dont take any coupons printed from the internet then this is incorrect , and NOT general Sainsburys company policy0

I have a relative and two friends that work on the checkouts. They are told if there are any fake coupons circulating - 95% of these are internet coupons. That is prob why some stores have a blanket ban on internet coupons.0

The assistant may have suspected the coupons were fake and gave a diplomatic response.
They are responsible for what goes into the till and if they suspect a coupon is fake they are not allowed to accept them. However, it is never a good idea to tell a customer you think their coupon is a fake, they NEVER react well.
Much better to say some thing like "We don't take those" or "Sainsburys don't take those"
Or it may be that the store has had a lot of fakes so the manager has decided not to accept any. It's also not a good idea to tell the customer that either, as they will think you are implying that their coupon may be a fake and they will not react well.
Either way, the customer was given a reason that would cause the least offence.0 -
By way of example.
The supermarket i work for has told us not to take any coupons over £5 without a manufacturers letter.0 -
Hmmmm ................
Thanks for the many replies. I still find it strange that we have NEVER been challenged by any of the other supermarkets only Sainsburys yet surely the above (cautious) policy must be applicable to ALL stores ! - I wonder why Sainsburys are so keen to impose a "local policy"
Thanks once again.0 -
It's little to do with store policy, it's everything to do with a checkout operative wanting to cover their !!!!. To many people printed coupons still look dodgy and fake, so it's understandable that they are hesitant to let them through.
Ever since I had a couple refused I've made it a habit to go straight to the customer service desk with printed coupon purchases. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0
