I suspect Delphina may not be greedy but is just very unhappy.
One doesn't have to be a daily mail reader to be a daily mail reader.

Don't you expect some of your tax to fix your roads once in a while, rather than having to pay from your own pocket? Believe me, my road is worse than most roads in most developing countries I have been to. And soon the bridge needs fixing but the Local Council keeps forgetting to do it. Am I going to have to pay for that, too? Don't you feel frustrated if you pay £5K plus each year in NI and cannot get JSA when you are really hard up, because you are self employed? And you see some people, who don't work or work much although they can, get benefits? I am not a Daily Mail reader or UKIP supporter. But I am just fed up.

Don't make me feel that I am greedy when I am not, please!

If you paid over £5k per year in NI then your self employed profit must have been around £97k
Would you not keep some of this in reserve for the times when you may be really hard up?
Having done this would the £56.80 a week JSA make much difference?

Why do you think paying high tax and usually subsequently getting 0 benefit is a privilege? I don't! I don't even get road maintenance, street lights or wheely bin but that is another story!

Really? I find it very to believe that you or your loved ones never use a road, never walk anywhere at night that has street lights or have rubbish collected?

Must be a very small island you live on.

Thanks for VERY lovely comments concerning what I ranted about unintentionally.

This world is not black or white. What I say or you say does not always have to be right or wrong, esp. when it is not stated as a fact and is based on some personal bitterness or experiences. Does someone deserve to be picked on if they are honest and hard-working but cannot help being frustrated and ranting very occasionally? Do you think that I am against paying tax? So why am I paying NI and taxes without trying to avoid them by setting up a ltd for many years? And don't preach me that I should never be hard up due to what I earn. You do not know me and my circumstances.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions but personal attacks are pathetic! If I am bigoted, greedy and narrow-minded, then are you ANY better than I am?

    Best wishes.

It isn't very clear what you are going on about to be honest!

Some people earn more and pay more taxes. But what does that mean in terms of treatment from governing bodies like Council, HMRC etc.

A and B are out of work aged 45 and lost their job::
A working in last 15 years payed £10K to £15X tax + NI per year
B working in last 15 years payed £2K to £3X tax + NI per year
The amount of tax/NI they paid would make no difference (as long as they earned enough to qualify for NI benefits which would be true in both the cases above). The amount of savings they had would make a difference to benefits, though they'd get contribution based JSA for 6 months regardless of savings. They wouldn't get housing benefits etc if they had over £16k in savings.
A and B are aged 65 and retired::
A working in last 30 years payed £10K to £15X tax + NI per year
B working in last 30 years payed £2K to £3X tax + NI per year

In both the cases would A get treated differently than B in terms of benefits, pension etc?
A might get more state pension (SERPS/S2P) than B, but it depends whether they were in a contracted out pension scheme or not. In some circumstances B could get more than A.

Again means tested benefits would depend on savings and other pensions they're getting.

The new "flat rate" scheme wouldn't apply to them.

I maybe wrong, I understood that higher tax payer get higher state pension after retirement.
You aren't wrong. Some people don't seem to understand what the ER in SERPS stands for. It won't apply to the new flat rate pension but that won't apply to anyone 65 now.
