letters from Lowell (O2 unpaid bill)

Hi,

I have been getting letters from Lowell about my unpaid bill to O2.

Basically, someone called me and offer a sim card for 10.50 pounds a month with limited calls, messages and data and said i need to set up a direct debit. they said as i have been with them for so long this offer is good then pay as u go. so i got this sim card and then i was getting bills about 20-30 pounds a month. i only found that out when i got my statement. i am sure i did not exceed the amount of minutes and messages i was supposed to use as i dont use my phone a lot. then, i cancelled the direct debit, and was keeping track on how much i use my phone. and they were still charging me 30 pounds! instead of 10.50. so i just threw away that sim card and didnt pay anything.

now im getting letters from Lowell that i have an unpaid bill and that they are going to send my account to Red Debt Collection Service who will be able to gain an access to my financial circumstances or take me to court.

what should i do? how did they find out my address? i have moved around many times

just because you cancelled your DD and threw away the sim card, this does not cancel your contract and your monthly obligation. you should have contacted o2 and explained .

Cancelling the direct debit does not cancel the contract. Just the method of payment. Until the contract is cancelled, your bill would continue to increase.

With O2 having passed the debt on to a collection agency it is unlikely they will take much interest. You can however try though. Lowell will only be interested in collecting the debt.

  • what if i dont pay???
  • They can continue with debt collection procedures or even a CCJ. You need to contact O2 - or Lowells and ask for the copy of your original contract and the statements showing how much you overused by and why you have been overcharged. Don't ignore this though or it can get much worse
  • Hi this is my first post.

firstly i don't know how to create a new post or i would have done that instead of tagging along on somebody else's post so sorry to OP .

secondly this is very similar to something i'm going through with Lowell/Red and all the other names they keep using. I've seen that Sinhanada mentioned the original contract , i've asked for a copy and been told and i quote " Three Mobile have no obligation to provide a copy of the original agreement. " this came from Lowell/Red.

Am i basically on my own here and have to accept Lowell/Red's word for it and pay the outstanding money ?
