One of the finest stage and screen actors of the twentieth century, Sir Laurence Olivier is loved and admired by audiences and fellow thespians alike. A master of Shakespeare, he directed, produced and acted in some of the finest adaptations of the bard to date.
Featuring three of his best known films Henry V (1947), Hamlet (1948) and Richard III (1955) along with As You Like It (1936), and the television productions of King Lear (1983) and the Merchant of Venice (1974). This trio of classics is complemented by a version of As You Like It, one of the most popular of Shakespeare’s comedies; a TV production of King Lear, which also features a stellar cast including Colin Blakely, Anna Calder Marshall, Jeremy Kemp, Robert Lindsay, David Threlfall, John Hurt, Diana Rigg and Brian Cox. The Merchant of Venice, made for television, and starring Olivier’s then wife, actress Joan Plowright.
