Gurgling sink

Options
Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can suggest an os way to unblock my sink, it keeps gurgling and nothing I've put down so far such as Mr Muscle  seems to work.

Any ideas are most welcome.

Cheers,

Hi! Have you tried removing the u-bend? You may find it slightly blocked with such as coffee grounds, silt from root veg, etc. They won't be shifed by Mr Muscle. Also, is your outlet blocked? Our outlet pipe goes down into an outside drain, and if the drain becomes blocked with leaves, etc, the sink doesn't drain.

Try this older thread - my sink is blocked Post 6 has links to other threads.

I use a plunger on a weekly basis. Water must cover the bottom of the sink so that the plughole is suberged, then I give it a few blows with the plunger, so as to dislodge all the accumulated matter in the u-bend. It works a treat. :)

I've tried this and it's worked a couple of times now. Dishwasher tablets or powder is pretty strong stuff, so if the works are gummed I put one/some into the drain and then run hot water onto it. The idea is to ensure a nice strong solution of it gets left in the u-bend overnight, so stop running the water while some is still left. Then next morning fill the sink up with hot water, but cool enough to be able to hold your hand in. As you drain the water out hold your hand over the outlet to seal it, then release to let some water out, then seal again, etc, so the water "pulses" out. With a bit of luck the dishwasher powder will have loosened up any greasy stuff, and the hand-plunger trick nudge it loose if it needs it.

Be careful to not use boiling water, as some plastic drain pipes may not be up to it.
