off sick and disciplinary

Hiya, I've been off work since last Monday (I work Mondays and Saturdays).
Today I went to get a doctor's note and when I arrived home there's a letter inviting me to a disciplinary hearing on Monday, because I have not contracted the company about my absent (I have twice, left voicemails both times).
I'm planning to take my sicknote in on Friday, I was gonna hand in my notice this week aswell.
Will I still have to attend the disciplinary?

  • If you are leaving then you don't have to attend the disciplinary - however, if you want a reference they can write that you left while subject to a disciplinary hearing.

Leaving voicemails aren't generally an acceptable way of reporting sickness, although you'd have to refer to your company policy to clarify that.

Yes I am guessing you will as the letter says you have not contacted the company

Your contract will tell you how sickness should be reported

In my old company you had to call every day of the sickness no matter what it was yourself by 9.30am and could only get someone else to call if you were
    1 - dead
2 - in a hospital bed and not able to get to the phone

In future, don't leave communications on voice mail, comply with the reporting requirements.
