I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. :)

I need to tell my 10 year old son that santa is not real,(bless him, don't think he gonna be happy) he is going on and on about what santa is getting him, last week he didn't want anything at all, and this week, his list is endless, and I havnt got any of it yet. Luckily OH is around all weekend and not working so we can go off shopping.

What age did you all tell your DD/DS??

My 13 year old came to us when he was about 9 and said he knows he not real and has know for ages, so we didn't have to have this talk, but my 10 year old will believe forever I think.

I prepared well. Was common knowledge in our house that santa didn't visit once you hit double figures ie 10.
Don't think dd still believed then but as ds2 did he felt sorry for dd and asked to do a stocking for her (it was fun to share santa shopping with ds2) Think my kids said they beleived so they would get stockings and after the stocking for dd at 10 they kept this up until they left home.
I didn't want to change the amount of gifts each got but the stockings ds2 put together for his older siblings had less spent on them and more on main gift from us.

This worked for us but I started the explanation when dd was 8 so plenty of time to get use to idea.
I have never told my kids santa is not real just that he stops coming when you get older.
It was the classic 'if we tell mum we know we might get less presents' so kids kept up the pretence until youngest was 10. Think he knew by then too.
