Morning all.
Was supposed to be shown around at my local foodbank today, ahead of a bit of volunteering. The woman who I was meeting was called to an emergency meeting so.....spinning my wheels today. Bit fed up as she could have let me know she wasn't going to be there. As it is I had a couple of boxes to give to the foodbank so it wasn't a wasted trip
My Mum decided to tell me not to focus too much on this stuff and I shouldn't bother trying to rearrange. Then said a real job would be better wouldn't it? It's fair to say I'm fuming. Would it be better? Lord knows the thought hadn't occurred to me every waking moment for the past two months! I'm actually really angry and upset. I'm doing this stuff to keep myself occupied and help people at the same time. Of course I want a real paying gig but I can't magic one up! Honestly just makes me want to curl up and not bother.
Ahhhhh I think it's a lovely gesture that you are trying to help others whilst you have the time.
It will keep your confidence up too.
If you feel good about it, carry on, there should be more people like this about and you should be proud of yourself.
I'm sure your DM meant it with the best of intentions though.
Maybe she thinks you are spending time that could be spent looking for work, I dunno?0 -
That's the thing Katilou, the way I see it is it's something to do whilst I'm looking for my next gig, not instead of it. I don't think volunteering for half a day a week is going to stop me doing anything.
It's just made me feel even worse about myself. Like I was looking at it as a positive and now I feel like it isn't.Debt free 6th December 2014

I agree, I think you should def look at as a positive for sure.
Just think if everyone who had the time did half a day a week what a difference it would make.
Try and keep your chin up, and look forward to rearranging the meeting0 -

Don't take it to heart Em, you will have a happier time if you ignore stuff that hurts you. We can't do anything about what others say, but we can do something about how we feel about it.
You know, and so do many others on here, that you are a valuable person with a great deal to offer and the right thing will come along in due course, and meanwhile it's very important to keep yourself happy and buoyant whichever way you can, and if that means ignoring unhelpful comments, then so be it. Don't let the gremlins get you down!
