Panini Press

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but as most conversations revolve about food thought it was worth a go!
We eat a lot of panini's at home so would like to get a panini press to save heating up the oven and get a better taste. I have found 2 models circa £30 but with one difference - one has flat plates, the other ridged.
Now, I am assuming you can cook other items - veg, bacon, eggs etc but what is the main difference? Am leaning towards flat plates as seem more versatile.

I've got a flat plate one. The one with ridges will char/griddle the bread a bit more which will change the flavour a bit but i wouldn't think it makes much difference.0

Hmm - that's what I had presumed but then again, I thought I might have missed something!! Flat plate it is.
(I am very lucky really that this has been my biggest concern of the day.)0 -
