Starbucks

Hi there,

I don't know if anyone can help me but here goes....

My daughter worked for Starbucks Coffee House for about five years. Initially to help her through university and latterly until she got herself a teaching post. She left the company towards the end of October and started her new job two weeks ago. She knew there was going to be a good while between wage packets but as she has shares in Starbucks {perk of the job} she wasn't too worried as she expected to get a fair but from selling them back to Starbucks. Her manager told her that she had 90 days to cash in her shares and so yesterday decided to call America and ask for them.

However, it seems that the manager got it wrong and that on the day they leave their employ the shares are absorbed back into Starbucks. This is all new to the managers we have spoke to and no one seems to want to help. There are one or two young people completely without money now until end of december payday.

Is there anything that can be done or is it bye bye shares?

Thanks

What does her contract say about shares?

  • Hi, She has read through her contract and shares are not mentioned. Although her bf checked on Starbucks employment site and it says 31 days after leaving. Either way it wouldn't have mattered because they withdrew them on last day of employment.

If she was foolish enough to intend to cash in her shares she thought she had rather than keep them then she would have been left high and dry regardless of circumstance.

She needs to bum a few tins of beans and toilet paper from her mum in the short term and think more carefully about future financial planning.
