Jewellery / Diamond gift buying help

Hi,

I’d like to buy my wife some diamond earrings for Xmas.

I’m looking to spend up to £200.

I obviously want to get the best deal for my money, which is generally around getting the biggest / best diamonds. I know I’m not spending much when diamonds are concerned, and have seen these with Betts Metals.

Can anyone who knows a bit more about the market suggest whether these are a sound buy, or suggest alternatives? Note the price is plus VAT, so is around £152 delivered. We bought our wedding rings from Betts and were very pleased with the quality, service and price so I’ve no issues with using them again.

On another note, I’ve also seen this heart shaped silver locket that would be a great gift from our baby daughter. I like the design, but given its low cost, wondered if anyone could recommend anywhere that sells something similar in white gold?

Are there any websites similar to Betts that anyone would recommend?

Thanks for any help, I’m sure my wife will be grateful!

Miles.

  • I've never heard of Betts before.
Have you tried Ernest Jones? They have a sale on at the moment an they have a lovely pair for £99.00 instead of £200 meaning you could get your wife another present too.
Amazon and Ebay are always good for jewellery too (I'm a seasoned bargain hunter!).
Your wife is very lucky no matter what you get her, hope you find what you're after :)

No no no. Quality not quantity.
    Thank you all who post.
  • Hi there, would you consider cubic zirconia in white gold or platinum? zirconias are actually harder than diamonds and a fraction of the price, the only difference would be under a microscope or a gadget that measures the hardness of stones.

Ive had some lovely cubic zirconia jewellery from Crislu at THBaker which is platinum coated on silver and the jewellery is all hand set and great quality

OH used to be a jobbing jeweller and bought trade from Betts so they are reputable they just don't have the shop mark up.

I wouldn't spend £200 on earrings though as they are so easily lost. I would spend that money on a necklace.

    Look at Cookson too.

Alternatively look for a local jobbing jeweller who will be able to make you a piece of jewellery for a fraction of what you pay in the shops.
