Huge delay on mortgage application acceptances

I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem...

I am waiting for my mortgage application to come back from the underwriter. The survey was completed a month ago and that was all fine (I have even received a copy!). My broker has been chasing Woolwich who have now told him to stop contacting them and they will 'get to it in their work pile.'

The application was put through 2 months ago and took weeks to get the survey booked. The application is on a new build, I already have a mortgage with Woolwich which will be paid off, and the new one is an application for myself and my partner and we meet all the criteria.

Is anyone else experiencing these kinds of delays? I dont understand what is taking so long. My current sale looks like it might complete before my new mortgage offer comes through at this rate, and that isnt something I really want to happen!

No, but we rarely use Woolwich.

I cant see Woolwich being behind by a month.

A week or 2 isnt uncommon if theyre busy but not a month. I have never known any lender say stop contacting us were busy... But in saying that i tend to have a laugh with most of my account managers.

  • Thats what I thought. I dont really know what else to do if they wont speak to my broker or give him an update. I have an online tracking login which hasnt been updated since 7th October, before the survey even took place. All seems very strange!

I've never heard anything like this. Have you tried calling Woolwich directly?

I was given the case reference for my lender in my KPI - I just called them directly whenever I needed something!

Not a chance is this just waiting in a queue.

Urgently chase the broker, or call them directly if not. We can and have got Woolwich applications much quicker than this.

    Good luck

Never call your lender direct if a broker is handling your case.

    Go through your broker.

Woolwich were very quick for me (last month). Only delay was the valuation.

Chelsea took 6 weeks to inform me they couldn't process my application!

Woolwich are reasonably quick, this could be with their "fraud" team, but still should not be taking this long, your broker should be contacting their BDM to find out what is going on.

I would generally agree, its only happened once to me where my client was the most impatient person ever but in this instance if the advisor is dragging (and we dont know whether it is the advisor or the lender) then i personally would be doing whatever i need to in order to find out where its up to.

  • Thank you for all your responses! My broker has assured me that he is contacting woolwich regularly, and he is a family friend so I believe him. I am very concerned that if we dont get this application we will need to apply to someone else. We are buying a new build and we are already passed the 30days.
