We have fluoride in our water so i'm presuming toothpaste without fluoride isn't so important.

    Absolutely not.

Fluoridated water only gives some protection to developing teeth ie to children under 8 and only to teeth that are developing.

Fluoridated toothpaste helps to protect teeth that are developing as children swallow some (that's why it's important to not let them use more than a pea sized blob) it inhibits the bacteria in the mouth and can help to heal early decay (that's why it's important to spit don't rinse to leave the toothpaste in contact with the tooth as long as possible.)
  • My late Ma-in-law used salt to clean her teeth all of her life and died at 85 with all her faculties intact and all of her teeth as well. She didn't have a filling in her life either, but then she rarely used sugar if she could help it and sweetened stewed fruit with honey. Her teeth were very good and she swore by salt as her mother and grandmother before her had only ever used it as well.I use what ever's on the offer really I have no preferance .I used Gibbs SR tooth powder when I was a little girl as its what my late Dad brought home from work (he was a chemist) I don't think I'd fancy the taste of soap to be honest
