mortgage with late payments from 7 years ago?

Hi I hope someone can help as im losing my mind right now....

2 years ago I messed up and got 2 months behind on my capuyal one bill and orangr bill. Both accounts were brought upto date within 2 or 3 months and haveremained open ever since.

Now we are hoping to buy in the next 4 years or so which would mean these late payments are going to be almost 7 years old.... however experian now hold payment records indefinately for the time tge account is open. Meaning thwy no lobger roll off after 3 years.

So my question is....
Will being a few months late on two bills be a massive hindrrence to me getting a mortgage almost 7 years down the line?
How far back are mortgage lenders really interested in?

Hope someone can put my mind at ease as im losing aleep at the moment over this!
Thanks

  • You should be fine. late payments aren't great, but it's more CCJ's and defaults you should be worried about. I had 4 late payments on one account in 2011 and I have been accepted, but that's with a 15% deposit. good luck!

I doubt a 7 year old late payment will affect you. Credit Reference Agencies only hold information for 6 years anyway.

We drop payment codes after six years on open accounts. Lenders also tend to concentrate on your most recent payment history, so late payments that occurred over three years ago usually have less impact.

  • Thabks for the replies everyone....

    James....
I spoke to soneone at experian last night who said payment codes are held indefinitely when an account is open and drop off 6 years after the account is closed.... is this correct?

From what you said id take it to mean yhey are removed after 6 years even the account is open?

    Bit confused lol
