Teacher Training

After 8 years of putting the wife’s career first, then having kids, then moving house (twice)…I want to get into teaching!

I applied once before for the GTP route but was told I was too young and I had other priorities at the time anyway so stopped at the initial stage.

Now it’s my turn :D I meet the initial requirements for the Salaried Route into Primary teaching (you get paid to train on the job (basically as a TA));

• I have my degree (whilst a 2:1 is preferred, I have a 2:2 BSc and this is usually accepted) and the GCSE’s,
• have the work experience (you need 3 years of experience working before you can go down this route),
• I have taught before (at uni, I did around 50-80 hours as a coach (half with a football team, half with an adapted sports club)),
• have done another week observing this month and plan to do another after Christmas (interviews can be offered with the condition you also do this, so there is a balance between getting it done and not being rejected before you do it)
• I’ve also been helping out at Beavers who the past 6 months to get into a structured environment of learning too
• I’ve got all the info from the Government website and seen how the application process has changed in the last month, let alone year (everything now through UCAS, applicatiosn open 21st now instead of 1st, info http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/faqs/applying.aspx , http://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/faqs/~/link.aspx?_id=0ED0C752A05C40269A8E6C835B7DA8C2&_z=z )

Do we have any teachers/TA's on here who can give me some sound advice with how I can help myself get onto this in 2014?

I know it is what I want to do (to the point now where that one week last week has made me think I would be more suited to KS2 than 1 initially), understand the values and commitments and don’t want to mess up. I do have someone who will be reviewing the application (works on a LEA board for applications) but any suggestions/ideas would be welcomed.

And, although it can’t be said officially; it’s nice to also represent a minority when I apply!

Thanks in advance!
