Just got one of these from John Lewis (£100 instead of £250 :j , now discontinued), to replace my old Intellichef (make 1, nothing to do with the current gadget with the same name), which I use daily.

Has anyone else got one? What do you cook with it?
Any tips or recipes (I'll be sharing mine as soon as I start using it)?

JL have discontinued it, and TBH if you haven't got it I don't think it's worth the full price.

Hi I had to google this as I wasn't sure what it was ( and I'm nosy)

It took me to Australian sites but one of them seems quite helpful :

    https://www.philips.com.au/homecooker

It has recipes and ideas on it.

    Hope that helps :)
  • Thank you.
I got the recipes from Phillips and other websites, but I was wondering if anyone else had bought it and wanted to share tips.
  • Hey Terra-Ferma....I am so tempted by this, I was going to spend £60 on a digital slow cooker, but this may be more value for money( at it's reduced price anyway), I've noticed the chopper/ slicer is reduced too, but doesn't have good reviews...have you used yours yet?,can you please tell me what capacity the main cooking pot is,? thankyou.

oh, it's back in stock now :j
I don't have the chopper, I didn't need it because I've got a Tefal one which I'm very happy with.
    The capacity is 3L.
It only has a 99 minutes timer, can't be used as a slow cooker without resetting the timer, although it can cook at very low temperatures, from 40 degrees.
If you want to come home to a nice meal then it's a slow cooker that you need.

It's great if you want to just leave it to its own devices when cooking your meal, great for cooking anything that needs steering, like risotto, polenta etc. (in theory haven't tried yet). It has a handy basket that doubles as a colander when cooking pasta (for up to 2 people I would say though). You can steam 3 tiers of food.
If you are cooking something with boiling liquid you should be able to steam at the same time, but haven't tried that yet. Soup and fish/veggies seem feasible.

The recipe book is a marketing disaster, they have only included recipes that require 3-4 stages of cooking, adding a few ingredients at the time to cook at different temperatures. Used in that way it's practically useless, who buys a digital cooker to come back to every 5 mins. But that is not necessary, it can be used to fry onion etc at the beginning, then add the ingredients, and left to its own devices.

I've not used it enough to really recommend it. Pity they've stopped making it but the old Intellicook pot (not the recent one without a timer) would have been perfect if you wanted a slow cooker with added functions.
  • Thanks Terra-ferma, useful info there...I already have a slow cooker which I love, was thinking about a digital one that would switch off then onto warm for family coming home when I'm at work.....
but this may be even more useful, I'm thinking I could set the pot up with mince, tinned tomatoes, herbs etc, diced chicken, stock, curry spices,etc..keep in fridge then one of the ( non cooking) members of the family could just fit it into the machine, set the temp and time and they still have a decent meal when I'm out on a 12.5 hr shift??
Reminds me of a deep actifry. Lol xx

It should work. :) I don't know if it would switch off if the food burns, like my Intellichef does, so may not suitable for kids. Otherwise should work well with wet food (as opposed to dry food like the sauteed potatoes from the recipe book).

I would get one quickly before they run out, because when I started the thread they had run out and I don't think they are making them anymore. The only alternative is full price on Phillip's own website.
