We are having a party at the weekend and I am supplying the wine. I am not a great wine drinker.

I need to get about 15 bottles mixed red/white/rose

The only one I know is the Rioja Reserva 2007 which I really like.

I want to buy from Aldi

Can anyone offer any advice please

I've been trying Aldi's cheaper wines recently.

I like the Claret at £3.99(it's the one bottled by Calvet); the Budavar Chardonnay is a bit sharp but only £3.49. I won't buy either the Australian White at £3.49 or the Grapevine Merlot at £2.99 again.

I've also tried the Cote du Rhone at £3.79 and the Castello(?) Italian Red - neither of them stood out either way.

There is another thread somewhere where someone recommends another of the Grapevine range.
  • The Toro Loco red and Toro Loco rose both won outstanding wine awards and are a steal at just over £3.50 per bottle. The Toscana Tempranillo red is another silver medalist red coming in at £4.00. There's a good Merlot red just under £4.00 Andara from Chile. A white Bordeaux also picked up a couple of awards and is excellent at £4.50 ish. Another white is the Italian Soave at less than £4.00. Those are off the top of my head so prices are not exact but close. Cheers.

    Thanks Guys,
There is enough for me to go at there.
  • The Aldi £4.99 Cava is fantastic. Really dry.
  • I second the Toro Loco, both red and rose. And if you want a sparkling wine I like their Prosecco.

stretch your budget to £4.49 and you will get an excellent Pinot Noir.

Avoid the Toscana italian red though! But then I'm not keen on the Toro Loco that gets raved about but found the Cotes de Rhone ok

The 'Reserve sauvingon blanc is good but around £6

We have our first Aldi opening tomorrow. Can't wait to try out their wines (and other things, lol) so watching this thread with interest, thanks all.

Do they do an organic wine?

Have a look at Aldi's exquisite range of wines.

The limestone chardonnay is well worth trying at £5.99, they also used to do a Albarino for the same price in which was a fantastic bargain price and was from one of the well known wine producers in Spain.

Just having a quick glance on the Aldi website it appears that they have really cut down on the Exquisite range which is a pity, i managed to track down the last of the Albarino in the west midlands area and obtained the last 10 bottles on the shelf.

For sparkling wine try thier Phillippe Crement De Jura for £6.99 one of the cheapest and best sparklers around, serve it nice and chilled.

Love the Toro Loco red (temperanillo?). V smooth & too, too drinkable. Tastes much more expensive than it is.
