Calculating holiday pay

Morning all,

I'm due to be paid my final months salary next week from my previous job - they agreed to let me finish on the first Monday of the month but are paying me for November in lieu of working the months notice, in the letter confirming this they also say I will be paid any holiday I've not taken.

I'm having trouble working out how much this will be? or indeed if I owe the company anything. The company holiday year runs from January to December. I started there on 14th January and finished on 4th November. My holiday allowance was 21 days (not including bank holidays / public holidays) with 4 to be held back for the Xmas shutdown. There are 6 days including the Xmas break I hadn't taken when I left, would it simply be a case of working out your daily rate then multiplying that by 6?

I would appreciate any advise, maths never was my strong point :/

Thanks, however that link only seems to calculate your leave entitlement, not the pay you would receive

How many days have you taken so far including bank holidays?

If you have taken 23 days you are still entitled to 3.5 day.

That's allowing for you only being entitled to eleven months worth of holidays.

    Example 29 days / 12 = 2.416 days * 11 = 26.58 days - 23 days taken = 3.5 days aprox.

Well that depends on how much you get paid.

Calculate your entitlement minus what you've taken to work out what is left due to you. You've not told us your hours or salary so we can't work that out for you.

Working on the basis that you work 5 days, full time a week, a full leave year is 21 which equates to 1.75 days per full month worked (I am deliberately ignoring BH's here as none fall within your notice period & I'm presuming you've taken them all off??). So for the whole months of Feb - Oct inc you accrued 9 x 1.75 = 15.75 days leave.

If you have 6 days of the 21 left as per post #1, you have used 15 so far so at best I reckon you will get 0.75 plus they might give a little to cover the start and end of days of your employment.

You need to clarify how many days leave you have taken, if the 21 is to cover the whole year and what period your leave year runs through, i.e. Jan - Dec or began at start date?

Accrual needs to be worked out using 29 days as the annual entitlement (21 plus 8 bank holidays) and not restricted to whole months. So the OP will have accrued more holiday than you suggest.

I calculate that you only have 3 days holiday left owing to you.You worked for the company from 14thJan-29thNov, total 46 weeks, you have already taken 23 days leave so you have worked for 41.4 weeks accumulating holidays at a rate of 12.56% which adds up to 5.2 weeks or 26 days. 26 days accumulated minus 23 taken leaves 3 owing.

Just goes to show how complicated this is.

OP I guess you have thought of asking before they pay so you have the chance to challenge. Also this will go onto your P45 so make sure they get it right.

Hello all, many thanks for your replies, sorry have been out all day.

To clarify, I started work at the company on January 14th, and finished on 4th November.

The 21 days (not including public holidays and the Xmas shutdown) is for the whole year

21 days plus the 8 bh makes 29 days for the full holiday year.

I make it you have worked 42 weeks so can you tell us how many days holiday and or bank holidays you have been paid for up to the 4th Nov?
