My MIL is 65 and FIL 75 they are lovely but they are also the type of people who is they want anything through the year they buy it themselves - we always ask FIL what he wants and he always says Lynx now I know for a fact he has about 20 tins and don't really want to get MIL smellies either as she tends not to use them - any help would be greatly appreciated

What do they do with their time?
Books, games, puzzles, DVDs are always an option but you might get better ideas if you can share more information about them and their hobbies.0 -
They don't do an awful lot FIL likes a bet on the horses - they go for drives perhaps to the garden center they don't have any hobbies really0

how about some garden centre vouchers or somehing for the garden like a planter
If they like to go out for an afternoom tea you could buy them tea at a local hotel or possibly several vouchers that they could use to pay for the meals out they enjoy.
Many years ago before vouchers became too popular we did something similar with my parents who liked a weekly pub lunch/afternoon tea type thing so we divided the money for the gift I think it was about £100 between them and put £15 in several envelopes....I then got the kids to draw pictures of the seaside, something appropriate to the countryside and gardens etc....and wrote on each envelope that the gift inside was to be used towards having a fish supper...a nice cup of tea....a pie and a pint etc...
Doing it that way we were encouraging them to go to the places they wanted to go to rather than having generic gift vouchers.
They seemed to love the idea as each time they went out they would come back and tell us what they had!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Would they like tickets to the races...or perhaps a national trust membership for a year
The other thought I perhaps had was maybe a tea hamper with all the bits for their own afternoon tea at home
Maybe you could put together a selection of teas or coffees and some nice cakes etcfrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Do you have children? We get calendars made up for the grandparents using photos of the kids over the year.0
