Liable for parent's debt?

My mother was made homeless 2 years ago. This week I received a letter from a debt collection agency, to my address but with my mother's name. I assume they found me on the electoral register.
She owes money to a loan company. Am I liable for this debt? She doesn't live with me, do I just call them and say she is not at this address or will they still pursue me?
Thanks,
Matthew

Thanks. My mother being made homeless was stress enough!
Would you know if I have a duty to tell them where they can find her, if I can track her down?
Much appreciated0 -
Stick it back in the box with not known at this address written on it. Also no you don't have to tell them anything it's nothing to do with you, let them go phish elsewhere.Barclaycard 3800

You're not obliged to tell them where she is - it's their job to locate her. Just tell them you're not in contact with her, so you can't help them. No matter what pressure they put on you to tell them, as long as you can prove you're not her they'll have to go elsewhere. You can't be held liable for the debt unless you guaranteed it or jointly took it out with her.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
