Barclays and stepchange

My main creditors in a DMP were Barclays and Barclaycard. Like you, I was advised to open a basic account with Barclays which I did. However, I was too worried and opened an HSBC basic account.

I know Step Change and Barclays say that you can open an account with them in a DMP, but what happens if they clear your account when you get paid. Your only defence would be ‘well Step Change said it would be ok’. I wouldn’t want to run that risk.

Presumably with your coventry account you can set up DD or standing orders to whoever you like? I can't see why there would be a problem?
And I presume it's standing order that you set up with StepChange rather than a Direct Debit?

Edit: I too would not run the risk of another account with Barclays. Why make life more difficult /stressful than it needs to be? Any other bank you don't owe money to should be fine such as Co-op or Coventry.
