change in pay structure has left us short

HI , hope someone can help with this one ,

my partners employer has changed his pay from monthly to 4 weekly, could anyone tell me if this should effect his tax and NI contributions,
has anyone else had pay changed from monthly to every 4 weeks ? did it effect your tax or NI

the reason I ask is because this is the first month on the new structure and my partner has paid a very large amount of tax and NI in comparison to his earnings ,
wages refuse to admit a mistake has been made , any help would be most appreciated
Thank You for reading my post

The only way to see exactly what is happening is for you to give full details of the last monthly payslip and the first four weekly payslip. Figures needed are pay, tax,NI,week or month number (or date paid if not shown) and tax code/basis.

It could well be that the old monthly payments and new four weekly payments have overlapped but this can be checked if you will give the details asked for above.
  • will get the info when he comes home , but I know they was no overlap , its worked out the first month is a few days short because of the cut of date ,

he has paid £100 tax and £61 NI on a gross of £462 (not the exact amounts but from memory very close)
as you can see he does not earn enough to pay tax and very little NI

whats annoying is the wages office says its right because the software works it out but surely the software only works off the numbers he inputs

I will get the wage slips and put the exact sums in when he comes home with them

The figures you have given above suggest another possibility to check that will need also from the two payslips the gross to date figure and the tax paid to date figure.
  • I can give you the gross to date figure, up to month 7 is £4682
    tax to date = £52.60
    NI = £37. 26

this months slip he took into work with him but from memory figures are as last post within a few pence

I really appreciate you taking the time, as you can see this makes a huge difference to our income

But you will get an 'extra' pay each year, as there will be 13 pays rather than 12

  • its not the wage we have a problem with its the amount of tax and NI that has been taken out that is the problem , we expected his earnings to be down what we didn't expect is a big chunk of it taken in contributions ,
we don't care how he gets paid but surely he would pay tax and NI according to his earnings but his wages office is saying his tax is right and its because of the new pay structure ,

Same figures needed for first four weekly pay as need to compare.

Also notice that tax is high if on 944L cumulative so can you confirm tax code on both payslips and also anything showing after tax code eg non-cumulative, month 1, X
If tax code lower than 944L any idea why?
  • tax code is 7919L
( he has another part time job, the tax office split his tax, so he gets full allowance )
he earns around £8000 gross annually for this employer,

will post figures for month 8 as soon as I can but as he isn't home yet I can only assume he is still trying to convince his boss that her wages clerk has made a mistake
    thank you so much x

Out of curiosity have they changed software (are payslips a different format)?

Or has the company changed (e.g. merged or been taken over)?

The payslip on four weekly pay should have a week number rather than a month number so will not appear to follow.
Can you check the tax code and tax to date as they do not appear to match at the moment. I am assuming that tax code is 791L based on tax allowance of £7919

Also on what date was the four weekly wage paid?
