Hi all,
My photographer has just announced she's pregnant. Whilst I'm over the moon for her (she's a friend too) I'm worried she won't be able to do my wedding. How do I ask without coming across as insensitive or selfish? As I'm panicking about this, I've started looking on the internet for alternatives, does anyone have any cheap good recommendations for the derbyshire area please?
Thanks for any tips/advice/recommendations

Hi Hels
Firstly how far along will she be? If she's very far along then yes she's going to be struggling. Otherwise it may not be a big issue.
Secondly is she a professional wedding photographer? If so then she probably already (or at least should) have a group of people she can ask to stand in should she be ill/unavailable etc. I am a member of a group of fellow photographers who all help each other out. The other week one of our members literally fell down the stairs and couldn't shoot a wedding, I stood in.
What sort of photos are you after? If you are after a lot of candid photos then this is quite an active job. I'm usually all over the place, rolling on the floor with the kids etc. If it's the posed, traditional set pieces then it's not going to be a big issue. But if you want loads of candids then again, I think you need to have an honest conversation.
As for how to broach the subject, I don't think there's going to be an easy way. If it were me, I'd probably start by saying you are worried that given she's pregnant she will find it hard going and you'd rather she relaxed as a guest.
You can't really be a guest and a photographer. It's pretty much either or.0 -

When are you getting married? Was she charging you ?
Is she a professional or just a friend who takes good photos ?
If she is a professional it isn't wrong to ask-and you wouldn't be the only customer to ask.......If she's a friend "just" taking photos -ask her if she thinks she'll still be able to do it and if not does she have other friends into photography who she can recommendI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Hi, thanks for the replies. She is a professional and was charging me "mates rates" (£550) for a pre shoot and full day with assistant. My weddings May next year. I've spoken to here and it really isn't going to be possible for her to do it realisticly (she'll only have 2 weeks to go). She's going to see if she can find anyone else but she wasn't local to me so I think she might struggle

Hi Hels
I'm actually in the Derbyshire area. I'm pretty booked up next year but I know a lot of local photographers who would fit your budget. Drop me a PM if you want to have a chat.0 -
If you google Ezekiel Taylor he's a wedding photographer based in Derbyshire, pictures are absolutely gorgeous and reasonably priced. Pm me for anymore info that you need, hope that helps xxSealed Pot Challenge Member 151

As a friend I would simply ask her outright as obviously you are concerned for her as well as for your photos. I am sure she will a appreciate your concern.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0

I realise this is from last month but if you're still looking - or for anyone else - my sister is an amazing wedding photographer and lives in Derbyshire. I know she's my sister but her photos really are incredible! She's not got a website set up yet as she's just setting up on her own (she used to work for someone else) but if anyone is interested you can contact her through for examples of her work/pricing through me0

Just in case you're still looking, a friend of mine is Derbyshire-based and takes really lovely photos - her website is here: http://www.hannahmillardphotography.com/"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
