Winning from a public vote

Has anyone ever won a competition that has gone to a public vote just by asking their own friends? Wondering if it is worthwhile potentially annoying people by asking for support when I don't have many to ask so unlikely to succeed.
Thanks in advance for any comments

I did one recently. I have 156 friends/family on Facebook. I shared the link with my pic for a week and I sent out messages, all they had to do was "like" the picture but sadly only 56 of my friends bothered to vote and I missed out on the prize of a trip to Germany by 18 likes. They didn't even need to share, just hit that little like button. I was very disappointed.
So, in my opinion it is not worth it.

I avoid any competitions that are voting ones. They are more a popularity contest then the best entry wins and there is lots of cheating and nastiness that goes on with vote comps.0

I have forgotten the members name on here but when a post has been put up that calls for votes they post....lets get them to change their minds and either make it random draw or company decides. They got a £1000 funny photo comp to change their winner rules, so I would go with chipping in and asking for a different method of winning.0
