Has my manager/employer broken the data protection act?

I had a conversation with my manager surrounding an ongoing private medical condition (of mine).
A few days later we had an email exchange over another matter and during this exchange the manager mentioned the conversation we had, including my disclosure. Yet for some reason he cc'd this email to a 3rd party, someone in the same organisation but unknown to me, effectively telling them of my medical disclosure in the process.
I'm obviously quite distraught by this as the matter is very personal, so has he broken the Data Protection Act?

Is he person they emailed HR or occupational health?
Maybe they need to know about the conversation you have had. Ask the manager who you spoke to who the cc person is.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The person is/was in a field similar to what you describe, however the relevant works policy states wtte that "written consent needs to be given for anything personal/medical to be disclosed".. I never have anyone written consent!
I have no doubt that policy has been broken, am just unsure as to what the law might state!0 -

What are you looking to achieve here? Have you spoken to your manager and asked why the information was passed on?0 -
Disclosed to whom though? An outside person? Surely not an internal person as it will all go on your file surely? The person is/was in a field similar to what you describe, however the relevant works policy states wtte that "written consent needs to be given for anything personal/medical to be disclosed".. There have been/are ongoing investigations into bullying and harassment.0 -

That's what the policy simply states .. wtte 'not disclosed to anyone without written consent' I believe the original reason for copying in the other person was to bully/intimidate over the other matter, but by mentioning my medical issue, whether it was an oversight or deliberate.. it had no bearing on the conversation we were having via email but was just 'thrown in' to the conversation and cc'd.0 -

In that case you need to take advice from someone who is aware of the full situation. In isolation, this looks like a mistake where the suitable response would be to remind them that the information should not have been passed on. If there are more issues, then you need to be keeping a diary of what has happened and complain to HR.0 -

Bully you over an illness/medical condition?

Perhaps the email is deemed sufficient as confirmation of like written consent, sorry to say, I think there are arguments that an email is not as valid as a written letter but hey, live by the sword die by it
Don't like to ask but how long have you worked there?0 -

I agree the Email is basically same as a letter, but the email wasn't asking for consent - it was just sent to someone about the medical condition.
So its a moot point in that respect.People don't know what they want until you show them.0
