Hey all.
I work within the security industry, and booked a week off for holiday. I were approached by a friend who works within the same sector asking If I wanted to do a few days temp work over my few days off As I have my sia licence and they needed qqualified people.
The day rate is much higher than my usual normal pay. I've taken it and i we worked 2 of the 3 dates. When I registered woth the temp company and filled in forms Igave bamk details and NI number,, they said Ill get taxed on it, which I knew anyway.
I usually earn 22.5k a year, with these 3 days work bringing in an extra 400.
I'm just curious as to how much of that "400 extra" ill see? Only tpok it cause of christmas round the corner. They've offered me a few more days here and there but I've declined at the moment as I want to make sure its worth my time.
Anyone know how I can fogure what iill be taxed?
Cheers

You should pay income tax on the whole lot as your tax code only applies to your main job.
Roughly speaking, and it is a very rough rule of thumb, divide by 4, times by 3, and that's about what you'll get back.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
You'll pay basic rate tax which is 20% (one fifth) so divide the 400 by 5, so you'll pay £80 tax and receive £320 of it.0

NI is calculated per job so if you don't work much for that job then you shouldn't pay any.
I am assuming that the three days work for £400 all fell within the one week (OP advised that they had a week's holiday and were offered 3 days work during that holiday). If this is the case then NI is due and would be around £30, as NI is due on earnings above the earnings threshold for the earnings period which in this case would be one week.0
