Incorrect maternity pay - what can I do?

Wife is on maternity leave.
Checked the policy before maternity leave and I've got a copy here. Also, got maternity pay letter from employer (NHS trust).
Anyway, policy says (And exact wording):-
"8 weeks full pay inclusive of SMP,
18 weeks half pay plus SMP,
13 weeks SMP"
Maternity letter says:-
"8 weeks full pay @£283.27 for the period A to B
18 weeks half pay @£141.63 & SMP @£136.78 for the period B to C
13 weeks SMP @£136.78 for the period C to D
13 weeks no pay for the period of D to E"
Surely, its cut and dried here that the second 18 week period is half-pay PLUS SMP?
Been paid just half-pay. Wife tried phoning payroll but they are convinced they are right.
What can we do?

The policy and their letter are saying the same, if you have only been paid half pay then you would need to raise a grievance and send a copy of both the policy and the letter confirming the amounts.
I would personally goto the line manager first and ask them to act before raising the grievance.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

You could send HR & Payroll the link below...
http://www.nhsemployers.org/SiteCollectionDocuments/AfC_tc_of_service_handbook_fb.pdf
... Refer them to Part 3, Section 15.21 and ask them to explain on what grounds they are failing to apply this policy to your wife.0 -

Thanks - so its definite then. The weird thing is a lot of people from the department have been on maternity leave and I've got a feeling they've all been done like this.0 -
