Our buffet was done by a local pub who do outside catering. I have to say that it was fantastic and quite reasonable. They catered for both meat eaters and veggies equally as well. This year, the same people are catering for my (strict veggie) friends after the quality of the food at our wedding.

There was just enough food left over, and we did the "cater for 75%" thing. However, two of my uncles still went up for thirds.......... and that was before the pudding!!! :D

I get married Sept 1st. We met through medieval re enactment so are having the medieval reception. We first thought of a full banquet but like you our guests are expected to number 150+ and the cost got silly.
We are catering for it ourselves and are only having food available in the C15th.

Asda have been very helpful. Talk to the manager of the Deli counter. We have been told to place an order about 2 weeks before and they will supply the big quiches, sliced meats, cooked chickens and lots of loaves of bread. Wander around asda, make a list of what you would like and then talk to some one about a bulk order.
Smile. Its the second best thing you can do with your lips....

My friend did a gorgeous buffet for her DD's christening. She made did huge pots of soup (potager soup made of carrot & potato so cheap. Cooked very slowly and it tasted really creamy though there was none in it) to start with rolls which was delicious. She made quiches including vegetarian ones, a variety of gorgeous looking salads eg waldorf, a mediteranean style couscous one, pasta, rice, mozarella & tomato. There were jacket potatoes & crisps and she had ham, beef & turkey for meats. She also did pavlova with Kiwi fruit and then a couple of other people brought some other puddings. It all looked and tasted fantastic and I think she said it came to around £150 for 70 people, that might have included some of the drink.

Friends of ours had a late wedding & we all had a sit down formal meal, however instead of a buffet in the evening they had fireworks at midnight with bacon baps!

We had a 'hot' buffet for out wedding. The hot part was jacket potatoes and there was a selection of toppings, salads and all the usually trimmings. All our guests were happy with the food!

    hi everyone

this thread was a very interesting read. i had asked my mum and step dad to do our buffet and my mum turned round and said "i dont know if the hotel (were we would have our wedding) would like it if we brought in our own food and used their kitchen" (i have a small kitchen but im sure we could use mine!!)

has anyone had a wedding were bringing in your own buffet food wasnt allowed?

    Thanks!

We looked at several venues that were "tied" to using specific caterers. So some do prohibit doing your own catering.

I guess their main problem at a hotel would be if you provided the food and there was a case of food poisoning, their reputation would likely suffer.
