help! damp seal - huge patches of wall where paint won't dry

So i painted 2 alcoves, half a wall and a few other patches with thompsons one coat damp seal 3 days ago, then ran out so painted half a chimney breast with polycell damp seal yesterday. After tge suggested 4 hours from that I painted my walls with emulsion 20 hours ago and everywhere with a coat of damp seal is still wet and the emulsion wipes off the wall. I have have tried sanding down (which makes the damp seal peel like a sunburn), sugar soap, and am using various brands and colours of emulsion and nothing works. Whats gone wrong? The instructions on the tin mention no further wall prep before painting. I have wasted a lot af paint and time here. The whole point was to try snd fix the horrendous damp, flaky walls (that no workman the landlord sends can fix) and now im in a right state.

Sounds like the wall is very wet.No amount of damp seal will dry out a wet wall. The problem needs to be fixed at source.Have you tried using a fan heater on the wet areas to see If the paint drys as once a surface is sealed the paint will take longer to dry.If it does not the wall is to wet to paint
  • Had a dehumidifier on for 2 days, the walks were dry before I painted. The problem is it wont take to the damp seal. Literally everywhere I touched with the damp seal is like painting on plastic

i looked at this last year and was told that you had to prime on top of it with an oil based undercoat or exterior masonry paint - I dont know how right this info is though

I didnt end up needing it in the end as my problem was condensation and not damp

If the paint is dry and just flakes off the damp seal then you will have to sand it back to remove all loose paint and then seal with a thinned down OIL BASED undercoat
