mortgage quote issue

Hi,
I am in the process of organising a fixed rate 5 year interest free mortgage. My girlfriend spoke with the sales department who sent us a document outlining the different rates that we could get. We picked the 5.795%, filled in the application form and sent it back. In the time between us receiving the quote, and our application form being received, the mortgage lender has changed their rate to 6.09%. They are saying that the quote that we were given is no longer applicable.
Is this true? Do we now have to go with the 6.09%, or is there a way we can argue it to get the original quote?
Many thanks in advance..

There's nothing you can do, until you receive and sign for an offer of advance you can't guarantee they won't change their rates.0
