I buy 58kg of frozen mashed potato each month.

The best I can find is mash at Farmfoods for £0.84 / kg -- However it has vegetable oil in it which I'm not comfortable eating.

Currently buying frozen mash at Tesco for £2 / kg

Does anyone know a cheaper place to buy frozen mash, perhaps at a wholesaler or something?

    58kg a month?

What about making your own as and when required?
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

You like mash, that's for sure!
  • Yeah 58kg... pretty strange, yes. :P

I considered making it myself (costs about 80p/Kg), but as a lazy person I love the convenience of frozen mash and willing to pay for it.

Yes, if you were wondering... I eat three meals each day consisting of 650g mash + portion of mixed vegetables + portion of meat. With milk and fruit between meals. I've been eating like this the past 6 months and have never been better health-wise. It took a few years to find a diet that worked for me.

Edit: Found canned pre-peeled potatoes at asda @ 14p per can (350-400g per can). For 58kg it comes to £25.20 per month!

Managed to get my monthly food bill to £132.30 down from £378.25 just by changing brands & types. :D

if you buy that quantity and you have a big freezer you may get a good deal from a catering wholesaler

I don't think that these would mash very well - tinned spuds tend to have a really odd taste and texture. They also tend to be very heavily salted so you'd need to watch that, if you ate 3 650g portions a day.

I recently discovered canned potatoes. I think, a bit like canned carrots and peas, they taste OK but not like fresh product. So basically (a bit like coffee) it's best not to compare but think of as a different food altogether.

I found the best way to eat them is to slice them up and have saut!ed or put into a frittata.

At less than 39p a kg they're a good, cheap stand by.

Sorry OP, not much use for the mashed potato diet. BTW I still find your food budget high per month for one person. I suppose having meat, veg and mash for breakfast must push the costs up.:rotfl:
