Title deeds and old documents

I received a parcel of old documents and land register entries which relate to my property, from my conveyancing solicitor.
Some of then are very old and written in old English and all look very official.
My entry on the land register is just a plain printed modern document!

My question is, why have they sent them to me and what do I do with them?

Thanks

I assume you have just paid off your mortgage, or bought another house?

In days gone by, the Title Deeds were the proof that you owned your house. But in this electronic age, the proof of ownership is held on computer.

So the deeds are, in essence, historical documents for you to either keep, or throw away if you want.

I vote for keeping them, because I hate to see interesting documents chucked out.

There's no need to keep them at your bank or in a secure box, they are just documents of interest now.

I loved reading through the history of my old place. As I have bought a newbuild, mine has no history now.

We just bought our first home. The conveyance solicitor sent me a letter saying they could store the documents for £18 a year but I don't see why?

I'd never throw them away, they are fab!
  • I would keep them if I were you. Earlier this year we found out that a family that used to own our home were in the blood line used to verify that the body in the car park was that of Richard III.

Brilliant, I love history - and personal history, such as the family or the house is the best of all
