I've just had another earful from the family re me not being able to say what is happening with a potential job I was offered 'subject to references' - I'm intending to go along and see what happens, I just can't make it out and the more subject of "satisfactory" references comes up the more nevy I get, especially knowing the last job holder was 'performance managed out' (yes really I was told this and I think this freaks me even more)

I emailed the job offer back with details of my references as I was asked to chose the 2nd, I got a cool 1 liner back, so couldn't work anything out and not heard anything back so having to go with the old no news is good news

My question is would they start the process of reference checking then on receipt of this email received or do they wait until the induction/training week which admittedly seems madness, as this hasn't been offer 1 day, start the next like pretty much all past jobs if I'm being honest, if you were HR please tell me you would check candidate out first with every given opportunity?

I told the JC but they just set another date for signing on, I've been for an insurance job through an agency where the process was different in that you only got a start date once all checks performed and ultimately that lead to a withdrawal hence me being downbeat

Thanks for any help

  • I'm sorry, your post makes little sense.

If you are asking if 'subject to references' means they will check your references before you start, then yes, that is what normally happens.

If you are asking something else, then please clarify without all the ramble.

As jacques says, 'subject to references' means that if they don't like your references, they will withdraw the offer. I'm at the same stage at the moment. Good luck.
