Putting Charity Accounts on Facebook

My daughter volunteers for a fairly small charity and overheard a couple of directors joking about getting a £90,000 Mercedes when they retire! I've just had a look at their accounts (which are freely available online ) and several members of staff earn over £60k and one earns over £100k!! It's in a very poorly paid part of the world too!

What's to stop me setting up a Facebook page with a link to the accounts?

I'm very sure most people assume the directors are on about £35k maximum!

It just seems totally wrong IMO that they make a big fuss about getting volunteers and people to fund raise for fairly small amounts when literally hundreds of thousands are going to overpaid management. They also put a lot in the local press about desperately needing funds for vital services.

Just wondering what the legal situation would be if I set up a Facebook page with a link to their accounts. Naturally I wouldn't express any opinions!

What do you think they might be?

  • I was just wondering really if it is legal to put up their accounts on Facebook? They are freely available online but I'm not sure if an individual is allowed to put them on a Facebook page!
  • Charity accounts are available to anyone that wishes to view them. I can't see any issue with you posting them. I would be more concerned about the trouble you would be causing for your daughter if these actions were traced back to you - these things have a way of coming out.

Some charity directors deserve high salaries, what they bring into the business far exceeds what they take out.
  • If it's traced back to you, it could could cause massive issues for your daughter.

Why would you want to do that when we all can see them if we wanted anyway?

it's the trustees that need to deal with this.

Loads of charities have well paid staff, many make a career of making money out of charities as the accountability is quite low and well funded charities are a gold mine.

Animal charities are particularly good at making more money than they can spend.

if you think it is in the pubic interests tell the local paper.
