Have you EVER been declared BR?

Bit of a rant here,
when searching for new home insurance I get the "have you EVER been declared BR" question, yet any convictions/claims are all 'in the last 5 years'.....
How can companies demand such lifelong information on BR yet on anything else on a set number of years, is this legal and if so is there anyone trying to stop this?

I find the best revenge it to never use that particular company again. Try the CO-OP insurnace, I found they didn't ask (but I didn't ask for instalments) even after scouring their T&C's before I ticked the box.
Even when I get to the point that I could open a savings account - I wont leave my credit union - the High Street Banks (well one in particular)were culpable in my BR but they will never admit to it...so I wont use them. I will keep my FREE basic bank account and not give them the opportunity to make any money out of me in the future if I can help it. I know they will never know or feel any sort of impact - but it feels nice to stick my tongue out at them

Vote with your feet/money & check out the insurance underwriters in case they are a company you wish to avoid. I had big issues with Norwich union yrs ago (now Aviva) & so avoid them like the plague by checking everywhere I spend my £ on insurance.0
