Vegetarian suet recipes?

I cleaned out my baking cupboard this morning and found a pack of vegetarian suet that I bought last xmas and haven't opened (I didn't look at the date, I don't care
). It was supposed to be for veggie mince pies but I don't fancy that idea now. Can I use it for pastry etc, like you would normal suet?

Yes it'll be fine. I sometimes use the vegetarian suet if it's the only one I can when I buy it. If I don't buy it when it's on my shopping list I'm liable to forget to get it and then get annoyed when I need it and haven't got it, IYKWIM!

I only ever use vegetarian suet. I found there was no difference between it and the beef suet. You could make a spotted !!!!!!0

I use vegetarian suet. Mushroom and onion suet pudding is niceThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

It's nice in dumplings too. Also suet pudding.0

I also only ever use veggie suet.
Find a steamed syrup sponge recipe and just replace the butter with suet, the texture will be lovely.
Or make dumplings next time you have a stew. Try 100g suet, 200g self raising flour, tablespoon of wholegrain mustard, some chopped thyme (dried is fine if that's what you have), enough milk to bind it all together, roll into balls (you should get about eight) and just plop them in on top of the stew for the last 25 minutes or so of cooking, make sure the lid is on so they can steam.0 -
You can make any pie and use the suet as a pastry for the top by making a standard dumpling mix, then rolling it out thick like a pastry - bake for 30-45 minutes until the crust is brown.0

You can also make dumplings in the slow cooker. Make in the normal way and then pop in the SC for the last hour and they'll steam nicely and be ready when the stew is.

You can use it just the same as beef suet - I use it because I'm vegetarian; makes lovely dumplings, I always throw a handful of mixed herbs in when I make these. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

You can also make baked sweet dumplings, which are lovely with a bit of jam or syrup on them. Make it by mixing the SR flour, suet & sugar then mix in some milk to a dough. Place spoonfuls on a baking sheet and bake at 180 for about 10-15 minutes until golden.

As others have said, use in any suet recipe. I prefer veggie suet in mincemeat because you don't get that fatty coated mouth feeling when you eat it cold0
