Asda promises £1bn price cuts to stop deserting to Aldi

Asda promises £1bn in price cuts to stop shoppers deserting to Aldi and Lidl”

Great I prefer to shop online then I can stick to a budget.

Has anybody seen any evidence of price cuts yet especially using mysupermarket.com?

The big supermarkets aren't afraid of the smaller corner shops taking a slice of their market are they??

£1bn in price cuts?? They must be too expensive if they can afford to cut that much.

Bring it on. Or is it all hype??

Wonder when they will do the cuts.. Hmm.

I have just checked my shopping on mysupermarket.com and it hasn't happened yet. They update weekly so I will keep an eye on it. Aldi still cheaper by £20.

I went to Aldi this morning. It was rammed full of cars in carpark and could only just get round shop.

I think they are just putting this out as a hype to get people back into Asda and once your their you spend money. They have more choices so expecting people to spend spend spend especially at Christmas.

Heard a Radio 5 economics journalist say after digging through the press release, a lot of the 1 billion pound was based on things they have already announced and started earlier in the year

He said the possible remaining cash available for going forward on price cuts was 300 million.

Know doubt the usual smoke and mirrors.

I doubt that there'll be any announcement when the prices sneak back up again.

I also doubt that you'll actualy be able to find any of the items involved on the shelves until the day after the promotion ends.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

Not a fan of Asda but their recent offers on branded spirits and liqueurs have been better than other supermarkets. It's been handy to stock up my bar.

Absolutely and a bit like the energy companies putting up prices in the winter!!
A case of wanting to max up during the busy Xmas period.
Snap up any bargains from ASDA or anywhere else and get the rest of the shopping where YOU want without all the hype.

Steve059 - too true. There will be NO "fanfares" when they pop the prices up.

It's all a game and I want to win. :p
