AA Home insurance

Hi

Just got my home insurance renewal and have done a search for cheaper quotes and AA is very competitive.

Has anyone any dealings with AA home insurance?

Thanks

I have used them but I think they're a brokerage aren't they? The best price I got was from Direct Line. I got a more comprehensive cover than I did with Legal And General, who I'd been with for 20+ years, but the price was less than half. I also have no excess to pay now.

The Direct Line website allows you to play around with deposits and various levels of cover so you can make you mind up about what you want to pay per month. Here's the address http://www.directline.com/home-insurance/ you'll see the "get a quote" button in the middle, right hand portion of the page. :)

I just got my contents insurance through The AA. If you use TopCashback you can get £19.95 cashback for a buildings OR contents policy or £39.90 for buildings AND contents policy. Mine tracked very quickly so hopefully in 8 weeks time my £114 policy will drop to less than £100. Not bad for a Belfast postcode.

Edit: not sure if they're still doing it but I also got free breakdown cover when I took out the policy so another added bonus.

If they're cheaper than the £28 a month I got quoted off Direct Line for full buildings, contents and accidental damage with no excess then that's the one to go for.

We used AA for 2 or 3 years for contents insurance as their price was the best/very competitive for our rental property. I had a good look at the t&cs and felt that it all looked reasonable and covered what we needed. We never needed to make a claim, so I can't comment on their service/claim-ability.

I've had to make two claims on my Direct Line policy. The first claims I've ever made on any house insurance and I was very annoyed I had to do so but their people reassured me. One of the claims was unusual in my experience. A drain from a downspout wasn't emptying. My first step was to get a "man" out to rod it. I did and he couldn't clear it. His opinion was that roots from a nearby hedge on my property had broken through into the gully.

I reported the matter to Direct Line and they sent a form of drain specialists out who used cameras to inspect all the gullys round the house and confirm that this particular one was blocked by root ingress. They sent out their team who dug a small hole in the garden and put something into the drain to cut away the roots. Then they put a resin soaked sleeve into the drain and inflated it until it hardened, gave me a 30 year guarantee and that was that. Drain working again and no cost to me because I have no excess. No penalty on the premiums either.

That's the kind of service I want so as long as Direct Line keep their prices the way they are I'll be sticking with them and recommending them to others. :)
