My psychology of spending

Morning all,

I am well on the road to being debt free :). But as weird as it may sound, I don't feel ready to be debt free yet.

All of my remaining debt is at 0% and will be paid off within the promotional period - so there is no harm in keeping the debt a bit longer. Having some debt helps to keep me on track.

So why don't I feel ready? Honestly, I just don't trust myself yet.

I understand where you are coming from...

I work really hard to make huge overpayments, but then treat myself and treat myself and treat myself. Its like one treat opens the floodgates for a months wages worth of them?

Looking at your signature tho, you are saving for a deposit.. Maybe you should try focusing on that and reward yourself when you hit goals. A facial every £500 you add to it or something similar?

We all have bad days, sometimes being debt busting focused all the time gets too much and we need to let it all out

    :) xx

    Hi timetogrowup89,

Like your username :). Very familiar with those floodgates! One justification for something not important leads to more and more equally dubious justifications.

Financially I'm ok right now, and I can live on what I earn, and I can afford occasional treats. I just get self destructive sometimes and all of that goes out the window and it's so frustrating.

But I'm trying to recognise it for what it is, and find a better way. Today I've been comfort eating again, but I stopped after I posted this morning. :)

My maths is shocking! I just updated my spreadsheet and have royally confused myself :rotfl:. I know its ok and I can't be that far off, but still, I thought I had the basics sorted in my head.

    Hoping its temporary brain fog.
