Christmas pudding charms

I did put a post on the Christmas forum but thought I would ask in here as I think there are a more suitable bunch in here for the topic!

I've bought some sterling silver charms, and some food safe ribbon. Do I dangle the ribbon out of the pudding when they cook? Or just leave a bit of ribbon attached to each charm so it's easier to find and people don't choke... But you can't see anything and you can light it all with brandy?

Thanks for any advice - hoping to start a new tradition x

I don't do that anymore but used to wrap the charms in a sliver of greaseproof paper - you would need to take special care when lighting the pud if keeping the ribbon on. :)

My Nan used to put a coin in the bowl when she served the pudding.

I think as long as you warn your diners that the charms are in the pudding, you shouldn't need the ribbon. they will probably then chop through it looking for the charms!

leave out the ribbon and tell people to have small mouthfuls and to take care because there are charms! Flaming the pudding will not be a problem

I can't see anyone thanking you for a "lucky" charm if they lose a crown in the process! :D
