Cars and Christmas?

Hi guys,

I have 2 quick questions, hopefully someone can help me out.

Question 1

I am currently 10 months into my BR the OR told me I could keep the car as I needed it for work and was worth under £1,000. Now the MOT was due in December 2013 but it needed about £200-£300 worth of work to fix it and get it through the MOT so I sold it for £800 and purchased another car for £750 then taxed it so it only cost me £870.

Should I of asked permission from the OR to do this or should I tell them that I have done this?

Question 2

Xmas is around the corner and like most people here there isnt gonna be much money for presents, my mum has offered to give me £100 so I can buy presents (mainly for all the kids in the family). I want to put this money into the bank so I can buy things online and get them cheaper using voucher codes and cashback sites....again will the OR be ok with this and do I need to ask/tell them?

I recieved a letter 3 months ago saying the OR had completed his investigations and would be closing the case and I have no IPA.

Thanks

  • In the grand scheme of things IMHO don't think you need to inform the OR, both the situation on the car and Christmas sound perfectly reasonable to have done.

But if you are worried about it, why not drop them an email to CYA, doubt they will even reply though!

    Have a Happy Christmas!

No you don`t have to inform the OR for either of those things :)

Thanks guys, being so close to the end i don't want to do something that might look suspicious
  • I wouldn't worry about getting money off your mother, I did the same and the OR said that as long as my mother was happy to spend the money on the purchase then there was no problem. If however the OR has said they've closed the case it may be that they've discharged you early or may do so. It might be worth checking with them.

The OR informing an undischarged BR their case is 'closed'..ie, all investigations into their financial affairs completed, is not hte same thing as Early Discharge. For ED, the OR has to apply to the Court..a costly business for the OR....

Automatic Discharge occurs one year from date of Petition.

    ED is disappearing.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
