London Tube tickets?

Hope this is the correct forum...?
We're country bumpkins travelling to London from Norfolk this Saturday on the train. Arriving at Liverpool street.
Our party is two adults one child. We have our train tickets already.
But, once in London we need underground tickets to travel to Arsenal and back.
I've tried to find out what tickets we need and where to buy them but all I get online is information about Oyster cards?
I don't want an oyster card. I haven't been to London since the mid 1990's and I won't be going back again any time soon, so I see no need for an Oyster card.
Is it possible just to buy a return tube ticket at the underground station and pay cash, without having to register credit cards or buy an Oyster card?
I've tried calling Transport for London but can't get them to pick up the phone!
Any information would be appreciated, please.

Hello
Child travels free and you can do what you like.
You might find a long queue for your tickets if you don't want to use the machines.
The machines are easy to use and you can use cash too.
Oyster cards don't have to be bought with credit cards and they are cheaper for travel and you don't need to register them either.
Registering is just in case you lose it.0 -
according to TFL
"You will need to pay a £5 deposit when you get a new Oyster card. You can get the deposit refunded when you return your Oyster card to us"
So for a one off trip, why would I want to pay out £15.00 for 3 cards, and go through all the hassle of applying for a refund later?0 -

Cash fare is £4.50 each way. Oyster fare is £2.10. So going there and back will cost each of you £4.80 more if you pay by cash.0 -

Yes, just join the queue at the automated ticket machines or the manned ticket desk, if the station has one.
Even for infrequent use, get the Oyster card. It doesn't expire between trips. Once you've used it this time, tuck it away in a 'travel' folder for next time, whether that's next year or in five years.0 -
Have you already bought your train tickets? If not, and if cheaper advance tickets are not available, buy a return that includes a London travelcard.
If you have already got your tickets you can buy a seperate travelcard from your local staffed station. However, they may not know how to do this. I have achieved this at Norwich.
Failing that, just buy a paper travelcard from a machine when you get to Liverpool Street. Or queue for the window.
If this will be a one off trip it's probably not worth messing about with Oyster although it may be cheaper and probably less hassle than you think.0 -

Child only travels free if under a certain age - 10.
OP it is worth getting the Oyster even with the faff of putting money on it and getting the deposit back - it will save you £9.60 on your fares if you were to just get the 2 singles there and back."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
If you're using a Friends and Family Railcard you could book a Travelcard. £5.90 per adult and £2 per child. Unlimited travel then.0
