Running a business from a council property?

Not sure if this is the right place to post so please move if not, Thanks

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice on behalf of my mum. Her and her husband were renting a shop and selling at car boot sales at the weekend. They no longer have the shop and would still like to sell at car boot sales etc.

Problem is they rent a council house and have been told they are not allowed to store the goods on the property even though they wont be selling from home. They have been told by the local council that they are also not allowed to use self storage as its not classed as business premises.

All they want is to store the goods through the week and do car boot sales on saturdays and sundays. Does anyone have any advice on how they could do this. They really have out a lot of work into this and they dont want to go back on the social.

Any advice would be really great.

THanks:)

Phone round the self storage places - particularly those that offer lock up containers. Most of the lock up container ones are businesses and you can drive right up to them to load/offload.

Use a friends address as a business address (not like mail is going their anyway?) and just store the things at home (are they really going to check?) or likewise....store them in a self storage..I don't see how the council can actually tell you - you can't store things in self storage when its nothing to do with them...
