  • Hi,

I've been in your position, so don't feel alone. We're all here to help.

I'm just a bit confused with your overdraft situation. Are they overdrafts from student accounts or just regular overdrafts? Have you just started paying interest on them or has this been for a while? What is the APR?

Is it something your parents could help you out with for the short term, if you can't find any extra work? I would ring the banks first and see what your options are and explain your situation with them.

Lots of people do use money transfers to shift debt from loans/overdrafts to credit cards. It can work out much cheaper in some cases.

However there are very few card issuers that offer money transfers and they do tend to be fairly hard to get. Some MBNA cards have a recommended minimum income. I'd imagine you would struggle given your salary and current situation.

That said it doesn't hurt to make an application to try (but don't make lots if you are rejected).

They are overdrafts from student accounts, I think I've been paying interest on them for about 6/7 months now. The APR is about 18% I think (Cant remember the exact amount off the top of my head).

I really do need to call the banks and see what my options are but I find it very daunting for some reason haha.

Tixy: Yes I was very dubious that I'd be able to get one in my current financial situation. Out of interest where would i go about looking for the money transfers that may be available to me?

Thanks for all your responses so far everyone, helping me to get my head around it all! Much appreciated! x
