Gaming Laptop

Options
Hi - I'm looking for a mid budget gaming laptop.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

I don't want a PC as that would mean being in a different room which isn't very sociable, I'm looking for something that i can sit and play whilst the wife watches X Factor or something.

The games I'd be looking to play are games like football manager, total war, civilization other top down strategy games etc so not as intensive as FPS but I'd like them to run smoothly as possible,

Max budget about £450-500 and I can wait til January sales.

  • For the games you want to play I dont think you need anything like the two above, maybe these:

    • - Webcam + DVDRW
    • - Windows 8 64bit
To be sure make a little list of the games you want to play, then google their minimum specs to be sure any laptop you choose can run them

Graphics are normally the letdown on laptops, if any of the games looks like it needs a graphics card maybe try a forum for that game to see what exactly it needs.

Well for that budget and wanting decent graphics I would go for one based on the AMD A8 or A10

Was only a quick look there is probably better deals elsewhere.

I do want to question the social bit, I go upstairs and play games while the wife watchs rubbish (ie xfactor), and to be honest that no less anti social than srtting next to here playing a game and completely ignoring her.

I only say this due to the fact if you throw the same money at a desktop PC it will have better performance.

  • My acer laptop came with

    I5 processor
    8 gig ram
    2 gig dedicated graphics card
    500gig hd

Cost 500 from pc world you'll definitely need dedicated graphics for total war

Seriously do people only see intel these days?

As mentioned you should be able to get an AMD A10 APU laptop in the budget which doesn't have dedicated graphics as it doesn't need dedicated graphics as AMD added a good graphics core into the APU.

My netbook runs crysis 2 thanks to an AMD APU and that only cost me £170!

Just a question really - why not have desktop pc in corner of living room? I can't imagine trying to game on a laptop without a proper chair, murder on the back. Gaming laptop will throw out loads of heat so you'll need it on a table anyway or your legs will burn and it will fry.

I have twin screen gaming pc (I paid more for silent one so it didn't disturb those watching tv) on a desk in the living room and a lot of friends do this too. Decent headset and everyone's happy.
